About Hagadone Directories, publisher of The Black Book

Hagadone Directories, Inc. was established in 1987 to publish and distribute cost-effective regional telephone directories. The company was founded by James (Jim) Hail and named after Mr. Hail’s partner Duane Hagadone.

Mr. Hail serves as President and Chief Operating Officer for Hagadone Directories, Inc. while Mr. Hagadone is Chairman of the Board.

Mr. Hagadone is best known for his ownership of Hagadone Hospitality Co., which owns and operates the Coeur d’Alene Resort and the renowned Floating Green Golf Course. The company owns and operates three additional hotels and owns the Coeur d’Alene Resort Plaza Shopping Mall.

Mr. Hagadone has numerous business interests in addition to his investments in Hagadone Directories and Hagadone Hospitality, including Hagadone Newspapers, Inc.

Hagadone-owned and operated daily newspapers are published in Moses Lake, Washington; Kellogg, Sandpoint, Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Kalispell, Montana; and Beloit, Wisconsin. The company also publishes numerous weekly advertising supplements, weekly newspapers and several monthly business publications.

Mr. Hagadone also has extensive real estate interests and operates the largest bindery, commercial printer and mailing house in Hawaii.

Mr. Hail had nearly 20 years of newspaper publishing background before entering the independent yellow pages industry. Mr. Hail previously served as Publisher of the Coeur d’Alene (Idaho) Press and the President of the North Idaho News Network of three daily and seven weekly newspapers and shopper publications.

Before joining Hagadone Newspapers, Inc. in 1985, Mr. Hail served as Publisher of the North Idaho Press, Wallace Miner and Kellogg Evening News newspapers in Kellogg and Wallace Idaho and as Vice President of the North Idaho Publishing Company.

Before moving to Idaho in 1980, Mr. Hail was with daily newspapers in Colorado, Kansas and Florida, including a five-year stint with Knight-Ridder Newspapers. Mr. Hail has worked as a reporter, copy editor, sports writer and editor, managing editor, advertising director and newspaper general manager in addition to his management and administrative duties.

Mr. Hagadone and Mr. Hail both reside in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
